The name Rokusho, is derived from the elegant reddish patina that Japanese metal smiths developed centuries ago for decorating metal objects. Copper Ruby, was chosen for the finish on this particular bowl, as it resembles this historic finish. The bowl, shifts continuously from copper to ruby depending on how light is reflected onto its surface. Opaque olive green on the underside of the sink enhances the copper ruby and creates depth and the illusion that the two colors are floating on the bowls surface. The Rokusho glass vessel sink, will compliment and enrich its elegant interior surroundings. This glass bowl is reminiscent of dappled sunlight as it ripples across the water. Silvery gold highlights with deep aqua underneath. Close-up detail shows silvery gold metal floating on the surface of aqua green. The metal creates a smooth dimpled texture on the surface of the glass, much like hammered copper. When light is shining directly onto the surface of the glass, the metal will appear more silver. In an indirect lighting situation, the bowls surface shows more gold to bronze in color. The Rock Study Vessel was created after returning from a deep canyon trek I made through the amazing rock formations of the Black Canyon. Gneiss, the predominate rock, consist of beautiful banding’s of metal like shinny mica and colored quartz. Inspired, the Rock Study glass Bowl was born. The bowl here utilizes broad bands of a specialized iridized glass separated with thin threads of colored glass. This bowl was influenced by the effect of sunlight entering a prism and displaying the spectrum of visible color, as first discovered by Sir Isaac Newton. The bowl's colors are luminous, transparent striations with alternating strips of rainbow and black iridescent, giving it a shimmering radiance.
